The Harvest: Album Background
“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” – Matt 9:36-38 English Standard Version.
The Lord Jesus Christ was deeply moved by the spiritual misery of those who were following him, hungry for genuine instruction and guidance in the way of true salvation. They were exhausted and thrown down from wandering around looking for spiritual food, but the Pharisees and the religious establishment of the day were no help. He paints a sorrowful picture of the pitiful plight of the people who were looking like sheep without a shepherd, and a harvest that was ready but going to waste because there just weren’t enough labourers.
The condition in which those people were sounds exactly like today. People are harassed by false teachers and prophets who make them eat grass, rats, and snakes. Church auditoriums are packed with hungry souls being fed spiritually poison by self-appointed seers and motivational speakers. We have billions of perishing souls and gospel opportunities in our schools, workplaces, churches, and communities. Indeed, the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few. Instead of us being hardworking labourers to bring the souls to Christ, we have become loiterers going after everything that is not missions-related. We find time for any and everything except to share the gospel of our Lord, their only hope of salvation.
May we earnestly pray for God to raise labourers and powerfully send them out for ministry work. Indeed, may God count us among those He is sending into His harvest. May He give us His compassion and set our hearts on where His own heart is —The Harvest!
